For a pump that is in operation, if the clearance between the ring seals increases, what impact will this have on the pump’s performance? How can one determine whether the ring seals are worn out while the pump is running?
An excessive gap in the mouth ring will reduce the pump’s efficiency and affect the water output!
An increased gap in the mouth ring leads to a decrease in outlet flow and pressure. It is difficult to determine this during operation, as pumps are generally designed to be on the larger side; therefore, even if the mouth ring wears out, the impact is not significant, except for an increase in power consumption, which results in wasted money.
As the gap around the mouthpiece increases, the efficiency of the pump decreases. Generally, when transporting the same volume of fluid, the current required will be higher than before
Excessive wear of the mouth ring generates a large axial force in single-stage pumps, thereby accelerating bearing wear.

In fact, a certain margin is reserved when selecting a pump. Each pump manufacturer will provide the allowable deviation value for the outlet ring clearance. But it's just for reference. It is determined based on on-site usage and practical experience. Furthermore, the smaller the gap between any rotating components and stationary components, the better, as this will **improve efficiency**. But it can also cause: abrasion, wear, vibration, as well as an increase in machining accuracy and installation precision.
The backflow has increased, resulting in more fluid being output by the impeller. . .
The outlet flow decreases, and the vibration levels increase
It will increase the axial thrust, causing damage to the front bearing; remember, it’s the front bearing that’s affected. The flow loss will not be very significant, and its magnitude is related to the level of axial vibration in the pump. If the outlet pressure drops, the bearings may get damaged
