What type of flow meter should be used to measure the flow rate of boiler feed water, for use in three-element control? In one of my design drawings, a metal tube rotameter was selected – is that acceptable? Orifice plate flowmeters are generally the choice! Although the rotor can also be equipped with remote transmission, it always seems a bit inappropriate; everyone please share their opinions! I’m not sure about boiler water level control, but the rotameter definitely won’t be a problem; with a boiler of that size, an error of around 1% isn’t a big deal... Orifice plates or electromagnetic sensors work fine as well – after all, it’s just for control purposes, and high precision isn’t necessary... :)
The boiler feedwater requirements I’ve encountered don’t require very high precision; I’ve seen vortex flow meters as well as orifice plates. I think the rotor is sufficient, but no matter what type of flow meter is used, there’s no need to get too caught up in comparing the amounts of water and steam.
