Describe the phenomenon of surge in piston compressors and its solutions
Surge occurs when the compressor vibrates violently; one can first open the manual valve on the surge line, which creates a bypass line.
We have one here that is a cross-line between the inlet and outlet; it’s probably used for anti-surge purposes
Generally, return paths for the inlet and outlet are provided; the degree to which the valves are opened affects the level of vibration, as long as the fasteners of the machine meet the specified requirements
