In the methanol-to-hydrogen production process at the company, the water discharged from the bottom of the vaporization tower is red in color and has a high viscosity. What could be the reason for this? Please ask experts for help!

I encountered the same issue when starting up operations here; moreover, the inlet and outlet of the raw material liquid pump were also covered in a rust-red substance. I suspected that this was caused by corrosion of the carbon steel pipes. Later, I replaced all the pipes used for transporting the methanol+water mixture with stainless steel, and now the situation has improved significantly. However, the methanol storage tanks and pure methanol pipelines are still made of carbon steel.
May I ask how your device is designed? Does it come with a vaporization tower?

It is a project undertaken by Handan 718, and it also includes a vaporization tower; in the past, the most redish-brown residue was discharged from the bottom of the vaporization tower
High-purity methanol does not corrode iron; the corrosion was likely caused by insufficient purging earlier, or by the low purity of the methanol with a high content of impurities. So after the new device has been in use for a while, it will get better. There’s no need to worry too much; it doesn’t affect the subsequent cracking reaction. But be sure to pay attention to the purity of methanol.
