Since **chemicals all possess dangerous properties such as flammability, explosiveness, toxicity, harmfulness, or corrosivity, improper control during their production, use, storage, transportation, and handling can easily lead to fires and explosion accidents; therefore, it is very important to have a solid understanding of the basic knowledge of **chemicals. With the “Basic Knowledge” activity platform, let’s review the following learning process together. 2 **Classification of chemicals: According to the regulations and standards currently in effect in our country, there are three national standards: GB6944-2005 \"Classification and Coding of Dangerous Goods\", GB12268-2005 \"List of Names of Dangerous Goods\", and GB13690-2009 \"Classification and Marking of Commonly Used **Chemicals\". These standards divide **chemicals into eight major categories, with each category further divided into several subcategories. Category 1: Explosive substances. Explosive substances are those that, under external influences such as heat, friction, or impact, can undergo violent chemical reactions, generating large amounts of gas and heat in an instant. This leads to a sharp increase in pressure, resulting in an explosion that causes damage and harm to the surrounding environment, equipment, and people. Category 2: Compressed gases and liquefied gases, referring to gases that are compressed, liquefied, or dissolved under pressure. When such items are exposed to heat, impact, or severe vibration, the pressure inside the container increases sharply, causing the container to rupture and leading to leaks or explosions. Category 3: Flammable liquids. Substances in this category are volatile at room temperature, and their vapors, when mixed with air, can form explosive mixtures. Category 4: Flammable solids, self-igniting substances, and substances that become flammable when exposed to moisture; these items are prone to causing fires. Category 5: Oxidizers and organic peroxides. These substances possess strong oxidizing properties and can easily cause combustion or explosions. Category 6: Toxic substances refer to those that, once they enter the body of humans (or animals), accumulate to a certain level and undergo biochemical or biophysical reactions with bodily fluids and tissues, thereby disrupting or damaging the normal physiological functions of the body, causing temporary or permanent pathological changes, and even posing a threat to life. Category 7: Radioactive materials. They are considered **chemicals**, but they fall outside the scope of regulation by the **Regulations on the Safe Management of Chemicals**; instead, there are separate **regulations** specifically designed to govern them. Category 8: Corrosives, referring to solids or liquids that can burn human tissue and cause damage to metals and other materials.
