Taking over with an inward extension can improve reinforcement; why is that?

When calculating the strength of pressure vessels and providing reinforcement for openings, having the nozzles extend inward can enhance the reinforcement – why is that? If it is extended inward, does that mean the height of the internal weld leg needs to be increased?

Since outward extension can provide reinforcement, why can’t inward extension do the same? There are specific requirements for the weld angles; they cannot be increased arbitrarily – one can refer to the standards.
When extending inward, the height of the internal weld leg remains unchanged; however, what needs to be considered is the structural reinforcement of the pipe that extends inward.
