Initially, a Wicken gear pump of model HL4724 was used for the high-waste tar pump in this installation; it is of the internal meshing type, and large springs are used for the mechanical seals. The properties of the medium are as follows: 1. It contains tiny particles, whose size is too small to be seen visually, but these particles can be felt when the material is squeezed between the fingers. 2. Viscosity calculated during design: 0.52 mPa·s ; At room temperature of 20°C, it has good flowability with no significant resistance to stirring; it solidifies below 0°C. 3. The actual flow rate is 200–400 kg/h, and the actual head is 20–30 m (the burner operates at 18 M; there is a pressure of 0.2–1.2 barg before the fuel enters the burner). Problems that occurred during use: 1. The rotor seized; it seized right from the start of use, with severe wear on the rotor components, and there were scratches on the external gear teeth. 2. Sealing leakage: The new pump leaks right from the start of use. It seems the pump selection was inappropriate; I’d like to choose a different one. Are there any suitable pump types? Does anyone have experience using pumps with similar media? I’m seeking recommendations.
The operating conditions are quite special: the presence of small particles can cause wear and leakage in the mechanical seal, as well as wear to the inner and outer rotors. It is recommended to use a rotor pump, as the rotors do not mesh with each other, which reduces the wear caused by particles on the rotors. The mechanical seal can be replaced with a skeleton oil seal to address this issue; a further analysis of the specific problems will be necessary
