What is an important method for controlling the ammonia content at the top of the control tower? At what temperature do the top few trays bring the ammonia gas upward? If the properties of the feed change, what changes will occur in the temperatures at various layers of the entire tower? In other words, if the feed contains a high level of ammonia and the amount of ammonia drawn off through the side stream is not increased, could the excess ammonia cause some other changes? For feeding, it is generally necessary to control the temperature in the middle of the filler; as long as this temperature remains between 50 and 80 degrees, there is no need to make any deliberate adjustments in order to avoid tower flooding. Furthermore, the ratio of hot to cold feed, as well as the side-stream extraction ratio, need to be determined through practical experience. Differences in operating load, as well as variations in the hydrogen sulfide and ammonia content of the feedstock, all have an impact on the operating conditions.
