For industrial sulfuric acid entering the plant, samples are taken twice from the same shipment. One time, the color is transparent. What causes discoloration to occur once?
Organic matter got mixed in accidentally; concentrated sulfuric acid has a dehydrating effect, which causes the organic matter to carbonize and turn black.
Is it the same sampling bottle? Is the sampling location the same?
This is probably related to the contact between sulfuric acid and air. The specific cause has not been identified. I’ve encountered this problem too; when sulfuric acid is placed in a container, it turns black over time!
Good sulfuric acid will not turn black over the time it is stored; if contaminants get mixed in during sampling or if the sampling location is incorrect, simply take another sample
