I am a preparation worker at a hydrogen peroxide plant; new working solutions need to be washed with hydrogen peroxide, while recycled working solutions are usually washed with potassium carbonate. What is the difference between the two washing methods?
The new working solution is washed with hydrogen peroxide to remove reducing substances; the recovered working solution is washed with sodium hydroxide, but this results in a loss of anthraquinone. I can’t explain the specific differences clearly, as there are many reactions involving hydrogen peroxide and numerous intermediates that remain unknown.
