Is it appropriate to weld all the baffle plates of the heat exchanger using round steel bars?

The baffle plates designed by our company are all secured using screw-mounted spacers; however, when they were manufactured in the factory, those spacers were removed and instead struts were used to weld directly to the baffle plates. I’m not sure if this is an appropriate approach
As long as the spacing between the baffle plates is maintained, there’s no problem.
