The American companies AUTOTROL and FLECK are specialized manufacturers of components for water treatment equipment, with decades of professional experience; their products are used in various fields such as boilers, the chemical industry, electronics, printing and dyeing, as well as household use. 1. Equipment selection The selection of water softening equipment is primarily based on the water demand, the hardness of the raw water, and the application scenario. 1) There are various models of equipment available for the same output volume, and the appropriate model can be chosen according to the actual water usage requirements. 2) Raw water hardness: When the raw water hardness is ≤3 m.mol/L, a time-control type of equipment can be selected, based on the maximum water production capacity of that equipment; when the raw water hardness is ≤6 m.mol/L, the selection can be made based on the maximum water production capacity listed in the table; when the raw water hardness is ≤8 m.mol/L, the average water production capacity of the equipment can be used as a reference for selection; when the raw water hardness is between 8 and 10 m.mol/L, calculation should be done using the minimum water production capacity of the equipment, or a multi-stage system should be employed; when the raw water hardness is ≥10 m.mol/L, multi-stage treatment is necessary, with two stages generally being sufficient to meet the requirements. 3) Applications involving water: If a hot water boiler or other similar equipment is used, the model can be selected based on the maximum water production capacity of that equipment; if water is supplied to a steam boiler, the equipment’s water production capacity should generally be set at 1.2 times the boiler’s evaporation rate. 2. Key points for design and installation The equipment has a simple structure and occupies little space, so there are no special requirements regarding its design and installation. The following points should be taken into consideration during design and installation: 1) The equipment requires a simple horizontal base; it should be placed about 250–450 mm away from the wall, and can be positioned against a corner depending on the actual conditions. 2) Since the equipment itself is relatively light, only the weight of the resin and water contained within it needs to be considered. 3) The inlet and outlet pipes use standard flanges or threaded connections, and they must be properly secured; they cannot rely on the valve body for support to avoid stress buildup. 4) A pressure gauge should be installed on the inlet pipe. During operation of the equipment, flushing water is discharged; therefore, a floor drain or drainage channel should be installed in proximity. 5) Salt water pipe: The salt water tank should be placed as close as possible to the water softening tank, and the shorter the salt water pipe, the better. 6) The sewage pipe should not be longer than 6 meters; it should not be equipped with a stop valve, its outlet should not be higher than the valve body, and there should be an end opening to prevent siphoning effect – the fewer bends, the better. 7) Power outlets should be installed on the wall near the equipment; they should be fitted with fuses (switches are generally not used), and proper grounding is required.
