Raw water, which is surface water, contains many impurities. Using such water directly in boilers can damage the boiler’s walls and other equipment. Boiler water softening systems are designed to remove colloids and organic substances from the raw water, thereby preventing the formation of scale in the boilers, which helps to improve their efficiency and extend their service life. Pre-treatment for boiler water softening equipment: When the raw water is surface water, the purpose of pre-treatment is to remove suspended solids, colloids, organic matter, and other substances from the water. Typically, a coagulant (such as aluminum sulfate) is added to the raw water to cause the aforementioned impurities to aggregate into larger particles, which then sink due to their own weight, and the resulting clear water is filtered out. When groundwater or urban water is used as the feedwater, pre-treatment of the raw water can be omitted, and only filtration is required. Common clarification devices include pulse-type, hydro-accelerated, and mechanically stirred clarifiers; while filtration devices comprise siphon filters, valveless filters, and single-stream or double-stream mechanical filters. To further remove organic matter from the water, an activated carbon filter can also be added. Boiler make-up water that has been treated by softening equipment contains no substances such as colloids, suspended particles, and organic matter that can damage the boiler walls, making it a true protector for the boiler.
