What is the difference between a gas-phase absorption tower and a liquid-phase absorption tower?

I encountered these two concepts in a book; I had never seen them before. Are they differences between continuous phases? Please answer, experts
As I understand it, to give an example: just like in desulfurization, in dry gas desulfurization the dry gas is in the gas phase while the desulfurizing agent is in the liquid phase; in liquefied gas desulfurization towers, both the liquefied gas and the desulfurizing agent are in liquid phase.
