None of the spiral seals purchased for our project are leak-proof; as a result, the bearings break down from time to time. They use packing for sealing, and our material has a particle size of 200–250 mesh, which is quite fine. From what we know, skeleton oil seals also have their drawbacks – they wear out easily, and the same is true for mechanical seals. The special sealing components available online are too expensive. Is there any good solution? Our current proposal is to use a labyrinth seal along with two layers of skeleton oil seals. I wonder if there is a better way to solve this problem.
For screw conveyors with high dust levels, the bearing housings are generally designed to be located outside the conveyor trough, that is, at both ends. Of course, the conveyor cannot be too long; otherwise, adding bearings in the middle will not prevent wear issues. However, short conveyors can be used to connect and transport, which effectively turns it into a long conveyor. For your reference.
The operating conditions described certainly make the use of mechanical seals inappropriate. The client has seen on-site bearing housings with similar operating conditions to yours that use oil-air mist lubrication
The bearings are external and sealed, which prevents powder materials from reaching them and thus reduces the risk of damage. Sealing is commonly achieved using packing and gas seals. Both can be present at the same time.
