1. In Appendix C of GB150.3, the heads of various high-pressure sealing structures there are all flat covers. I would like to ask the experienced colleagues why these sealing structures all use flat heads 2. In addition, in the design calculations specified in Appendix C of GB150.3, can the flat cover be replaced with another type of end closure, such as a spherical end closure? The other design calculations, such as those related to the ends and bolt forces, should still be carried out in accordance with the provisions in Appendix C.
This post was last edited by jdmove on 2016-5-26 22:15. Due to their thick wall thickness, pressure-sealed structures have difficulty being formed into spherical heads; flat covers are the easiest to create in this regard. So, a flat cover design is generally used.
It should have one end that is round and the other end that is flat, and it’s super thick
One is the issue of processing difficulty; the other is that even if processing is possible, residual stresses within the material pose a safety hazard under high pressure!
So, for a cylinder with an inner diameter of approximately 800 mm that uses a high-pressure sealing structure but features a spherical head, in terms of its design calculations, can the design of the ends and the flange sections, other than the head itself, be carried out in accordance with the provisions of Appendix C?
