In principle, it is not allowed to store different types of oils in the same tank farm; please have the owner check the tank farm design specifications.
If the storage temperature of heavy crude oil is not high, that is, below 90°C, it is possible to store it in the same tank area as light crude oil, but a dike should be installed to separate the two. If the storage temperature of heavy contaminated oil is high, a separate setup is required.
Safety requires high standards; the term \"not appropriate\" can have different interpretations depending on the occurrence of an accident, so please make your own judgment.
The 2008 version of GB50160 does not address this issue, but the draft for the next version contains clear provisions on it: see Article 6.2.5, Paragraph 5 – Light and heavy crude oil storage tanks should be arranged in the same group. The explanation of this provision is as follows: This clause was added primarily to address safety issues related to the centralized discharge of contaminated oil from the process units of petrochemical enterprises during shutdowns for maintenance or in case of accidents. The tanks used for storing light and heavy contaminated oil are empty during normal production; contaminated oil is only discharged during shutdowns for maintenance or in accident situations. It is difficult to determine whether light or heavy contaminated oil is volatile or not................................., By placing the tanks for light and heavy contaminated oil together, it becomes easier to carry out centralized discharge and treatment of such oil, and in the event of an accident, the impact on the safety and integrity of other tanks is minimized. However, GB50160 has not been updated yet; we are awaiting it.
