A reciprocating compressor with two-stage compression has an inter-stage cycle that runs from the second-stage outlet back to the first-stage inlet. What is the purpose of this inter-stage cycle? How should it be adjusted?
This is the return line, right? Before starting the machine, both the inlet and outlet valves of the return line should be opened fully; after startup, the return line is used to adjust the flow rate, thereby protecting the machine from excessive negative pressure at the inlet.

It’s probably because your system doesn’t require such a large volume; therefore, data is sent from the second level back to the first level, which reduces the compression at that level and also helps to adjust the compression ratio. It’s purely my personal understanding.
