The difference between STOP, TRIP, and SHUTDOWN in instrument control design

As the title suggests, how are these three distinguished within the system? Thank you
STOP: Stop, for example, to manually shut down the pump； TRIP: Exit the vehicle, triggered by the interlock signal ； SHUTDOWN: Stop the operation, such as an emergency shutdown.
I have two documents at hand; one is the alarm list, and the other is the cause&effect list. What is the internal connection between these two documents? I see that the alarm list contains trip setpoints, while cause&effect includes two types of responses: STOP and shutdown. I’m a beginner; I would be grateful for any guidance you can offer. Thank you
