For the syngas compressors here, we use nitrogen for the dry gas seal. . But this nitrogen pipe is connected to the instrument air – when is instrument air used?
If nitrogen is required as the sealing gas, try to avoid using air; it’s better to use an alternative if possible, as compressed air is less costly. This is a process-related issue, and the switch can be made once the air compressor is operating properly
It is only used as a temporary backup gas source when there are abnormalities in the nitrogen system (interruptions, pressure/flow fluctuations). It cannot be used as a formal gas source.
But the compressed gas we have here is gas; if air is used for dry gas sealing, wouldn’t that cause an explosion?
But it is gas that is compressed, specifically degassed gas (mainly hydrogen, carbon monoxide, methane). If air is introduced into the dry gas seal, won’t that cause an explosion?
Then why did you design it as such a system? To understand the specific operating conditions and the original design intent, you’d better take a look at your design documents!
When our CO2 compressor is operating normally, it uses CO2 as its own working medium; temporary sealing gas, that is, air, is only used when the compressor is started up or shut down;
Dry gas seals generally use nitrogen, right? They are connected to the atmosphere. Thinking creatively, couldn’t we avoid using air as the filling material for pressure gauges, and instead use shock-resistant pressure gauges with white oil as the filling fluid? That way, leaks could be prevented
During full plant shutdown for maintenance, nitrogen is not available; instrument air is used in its place!
