I’ve always wanted to understand the difference between 98-octane gasoline and 95-octane gasoline. I searched online and found that both 98-octane and 95-octane gasoline are derived from 92-octane gasoline with the addition of additives. Some people say that 98-octane gasoline contains more MMT due to its anti-knock properties, which is not good for the engine. I haven’t been able to find a definitive answer. My car has an EA888 engine and is 2.0T – can it use 98-octane gasoline? I earnestly ask all the experts to provide an answer.
The main difference between National IV and National V gasoline is the sulfur content. National Standard 4: ≤50 ppm, National Standard 5: ≤10 ppm. As for whether your car is suitable for 95# or 98# gasoline, it depends on the engine’s compression ratio; if you don’t mind spending more money, go with 98#. :lol

All I know is that the specific gravity of alkylated oil in National V fuel **increases**, and the higher the octane rating, the better.
National V gasoline prohibits the use of MMT; nowadays MTBE is generally used instead, so there’s no need to worry about MMT. The numbers indicate the octane rating; therefore, 98-octane gasoline has a higher octane rating than 95-octane gasoline. As for which type to use for one’s car, it’s best to choose the one that matches well; higher isn’t necessarily better.
