Large forgings have requirements regarding grain size, but it is rare to see such requirements for plates. I can’t remember in which steel plate report I came across requirements for the grain size of thicker steel plates. May I ask everyone: are there any requirements regarding grain size for plates?
Mainly referring to the design drawings, certain containers with higher requirements have specific specifications regarding the grain size of the material, and the manufacturing unit is required to conduct re-inspection.
There are also requirements regarding grain size for plates; ASME materials have numerous such requirements, while our **plate standards do not seem to specify any clear rules, stating instead that it should be agreed upon by both parties. My personal understanding is that it is related to the compression ratio of the steel ingot? In a sense, as long as the steel plant achieves the required compression ratio, the grain size can be guaranteed? So there are no strict requirements? I’ll just wait for Haiyou from the steel plant to help explain it, hehe

A bit more knowledge: What are the conditions for specifying grain size requirements for forgings? My own summary: 1. Hydrogen-resistant steel forgings. 2. Stress corrosion resistant steel forgings. 3. Steel forgings for low temperatures. 4. Steel forgings of grade III and above
I’d like to add that high-pressure and high-temperature containers also require high precision.
Should steel plate grain size and inclusions be retained or removed?
