Although there are various reasons for system crashes, they all boil down to two main factors: hardware and software. Hardware-related crashes, such as poor cooling – monitors, power supplies, and CPUs generate a lot of heat during operation. If a monitor overheats, it can cause color and image distortion, and even shorten its lifespan. Working for too long can also lead to poor cooling of the power supply or monitor, causing the computer to crash. CPU cooling is an important issue related to the stability of computer operation, and it is also a common site for cooling-related failures. Improper handling: Excessive vibration during the movement of a computer can often cause the components inside it to become loose, leading to poor connections and subsequent computer crashes. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid severe vibrations when moving a computer. Dust killer: Excessive dust inside the machine can also cause shutdown failures. If the floppy drive head or the optical drive laser head gets covered with too much dust, it can cause reading and writing errors; in severe cases, it may even lead to the computer crashing. Device mismatch – for example, if the motherboard’s clock speed does not match that of the CPU. When an older motherboard is overclocked and the external clock frequency is set too high, stability of operation may not be ensured, resulting in frequent crashes. Insufficient power supply: In applications, when computer components do not receive enough power, it causes those components to stop working, resulting in a blue screen crash. The main reasons for this phenomenon include insufficient power supply, poor quality of the power supply, inadequate external voltage, as well as software and hardware incompatibilities. 3D software and some specialized software may not be able to start or even be installed on certain computers, and this could be due to issues with software and hardware compatibility. Memory module failure is mainly caused by a loose memory module, poor soldering, or issues with the quality of the memory chips themselves. Memory module contact issues should be ruled out based on the specific circumstances; if there is a problem with the quality of the memory module, it must be replaced to resolve the issue. Hard drive failure is mainly caused by the aging of the hard drive or bad sectors resulting from improper use. This makes it easy for the machine to crash while in operation. Specialized tool software can be used for troubleshooting; if the damage is severe, the hard drive must be replaced. Additionally, for motherboards that do not support UDMA 66/100, attention should be paid to the setting of the hard drive operation mode in the CMOS. CPU Overclocking Overclocking increases the CPU’s operating frequency, but it may also make its performance unstable. The reason for this is that the CPU’s speed of accessing data in memory is already faster than the speed at which data is exchanged between memory and the hard drive; overclocking exacerbates this discrepancy, leading to more frequent instances where the required data cannot be found in memory or virtual memory, and thus \"exception errors\" occur. The solution is of course quite simple as well: it involves bringing the CPU back to its normal frequency. Hardware resource conflicts occur due to conflicting settings of the sound card or graphics card, resulting in abnormal errors. Furthermore, if there are conflicts with interrupts, DMA, or ports of other devices, it may cause some drivers to malfunction, leading to a system crash. The solution is to start in “Safe Mode” and make the necessary adjustments in “Control Panel” → “System” → “Device Manager”. For cases where abnormal errors occur in the driver, the registry can be modified. Select “Run”, type “REGEDIT” to open the Registry Editor, use the “Find” function in the menu to locate and delete all “keys” and “key values” related to the driver’s prefix string, then restart the system. Insufficient memory capacity. The larger the memory capacity, the better; it should be at least 0.5–1% of the hard drive’s capacity. If this issue arises, it is necessary to install memory modules with as large a capacity as possible. Low-quality components: A few unscrupulous sellers use inferior circuit boards and memory when assembling compatible computers for customers; some even sell fake motherboards as well as CPUs and memory that have been modified. Such machines are highly unstable in operation, and crashes are almost inevitable. Therefore, users should be cautious when purchasing a computer, and they can use some newer software tools to test it, run continuous stress tests for extended periods (such as 72 hours), and seek the longest possible warranty period. The operating system is incompatible with the hardware. For example, when Windows XP was installed on a ZM motherboard, the system kept crashing; however, after installing Yumulinfeng, there were no more crashes. Of course, these issues are usually discovered only after other possibilities have been ruled out.
