Can fiberglass-reinforced plastic be used for storing sodium hypochlorite, which is produced when liquid alkali absorbs chlorine gas? If it can’t be used, why? I checked a literature source, which states that the hydrolysis of chlorine produces hypophosphorous acid, and hypochlorous acid can generate reactive oxygen species, which are highly corrosive. According to this, is it because sodium hypochlorite also decomposes to release hypochlorous acid? Are there also many different types of fiberglass? For fiberglass made from various resins, are there any types that have good corrosion resistance and can be used for storing sodium hypochlorite?
A regular plastic bucket will do. Fiberglass is acceptable.

Our company uses PVC wrapped with fiberglass, and there are no problems at all. The only drawback is that the quality of the PVC welds must be ensured during the manufacturing of such tanks. In the event of a leak, it is difficult to weld it back together. The absorption of chlorine by alkali solutions to produce sodium hypochlorite, sodium chloride, and water is a reversible reaction. Therefore, hypochlorous sodium contains alkali solution, sodium hypochlorite, chlorine gas, and hypochlorous acid. Pure fiberglass tanks are no problem when dealing with chlorine and hypochlorous acid, but they may have issues when dealing with alkaline solutions.
FRP storage tanks can be used to store sodium hypochlorite, but certain requirements must be met regarding the FRP resin.
Some types of storage tanks made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic can withstand sodium hypochlorite, while others cannot; for specific information, it is advisable to consult manufacturers of fiberglass-reinforced plastic equipment. A rotational molding tank can be used. It has a low cost, but care should be taken to protect it from light.
Currently, PVC-covered fiberglass is widely used. The welding quality of plastic sheets, collisions during transportation, and the stresses generated during normal use can all affect its service life to a certain extent.
