Crude oil, also known as petroleum, is primarily composed of alkanes; in addition, it contains elements such as sulfur, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus, and vanadium. However, the oil composition and appearance vary greatly among different oil fields. Crude oil is composed of the following elements or compounds: Carbon – 84%, Hydrogen – 14%, Sulfur – 1 to 3% (hydrogen sulfide, sulfides, disulfides, and elemental sulfur), Nitrogen – less than 1% (basic compounds containing amino groups), Oxygen – less than 1% (present in organic compounds such as carbon dioxide, phenol, and carboxylic acids), Metals – less than 1% (nickel, iron, vanadium, copper, arsenic), Salts – less than 1% (sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, calcium chloride). The sulfur content has a corrosive effect and is harmful to human health. Chloride ions themselves also have strong oxidizing properties, but their concentration here is low. The diesel storage tanks used in our company are made of Q235 material. At normal temperature and pressure, thread-type gate valves are used, and no special anti-corrosion treatment is applied internally. However, the material to be chosen depends on the circumstances; it is necessary to consider the operating temperature and pressure, as well as the surrounding environment. For reference only.
