What is the difference between the overall process material balance and utility material balance diagrams in the process package design and the PFD? How should these two balances be prepared? It would be great to have templates; thank you all.
Simply put: mass balance is independent of the process; it is merely a balance of mass entering and leaving a system. It can refer to the total mass, or it can pertain to a specific element or medium (such as water balance or sulfur balance). PFD is related to processes, and it primarily describes the material properties of each pipeline in key processes; in addition to flow rate, it also indicates parameters such as temperature, pressure, and heat load. The two are basically different.
For material balance, I*usually use Excel sheets to calculate and verify the balance
