Do the safety officers employed in chemical companies today necessarily need to have a degree in chemistry?
Most companies I’m aware of promote employees from within – for example, those who work at the operational level, understand manufacturing processes and equipment, as well as the conditions on the job site; they are the ideal candidates for becoming safety officers. The company then arranges for them to pursue relevant certifications and receive training – perfect!
Internal promotions are the best option, but an issue at present is that, when applying for a safety officer certificate, one must have a degree in chemical engineering as a requirement for qualification. Those who are not majoring in chemical engineering don’t even qualify to apply
