We add acid to our circulating water by using an acid pump to transfer it from another workshop into our sulfuric acid storage tank (the pipes are made of carbon steel); thereafter, we use a metering pump to add the acid to the circulating water in order to adjust the pH level. The problem now is that after the metering pump has been in use for some time, the inlet filter gets clogged, which prevents acid from being added. What’s worse this time is that the inlet pipes of the metering pump are completely blocked. After the level gauge was removed, there was silt underneath. There is a thick layer of silt at the bottom of the sulfuric acid storage tank. How should this silt be dealt with, and how did it form? How can sludge formation be reduced? The material of the sulfuric acid storage tank is carbon steel, and it needs to be cleaned every one or two years, which poses significant safety risks! Does anyone have any better suggestions? This is acid sludge, which is primarily caused by iron oxidation as well as impurities present in the acid itself. In sulfuric acid systems, nitrogen is generally used as an agent to isolate the environment from air, that is, through nitrogen blanketing, which helps to **reduce** the amount of acid sludge generated. Acidic sludge is generally removed manually.
The pipe material can be replaced with one that is resistant to corrosion.
