Weekly Sulfur Review: Continued Weak Downward Trend Author/Source: Date: 2016-07-01 Clicks: 9 This week, the domestic sulfur market continued to show a weak downward trend, with prices falling across enterprises in the East China region by around 30–60 yuan per ton. Primarily due to increasing pressure on port inventories and a sharp rise in supply, there is greater pressure to ship goods from the market. On the other hand, weak demand for phosphatic fertilizers both domestically and in exports has led to a pessimistic attitude among domestic sulfur traders, with many being bearish ; Thirdly, the restart of the sulfur plant in Puguang, Sichuan, will have a significant impact on the future sulfur market. Main domestic sulfur prices: Solid sulfur in the Northeast region at 580-600 yuan/ton, liquid sulfur at 520-550 yuan/ton ; North China solid sulfonate: 640–760 yuan per ton; liquid sulfonate: 600–690 yuan per ton ; Yanjiang Gusuang: 620-740 yuan/ton ; Shandong solid sulfonate: 600-760 yuan/ton; liquid sulfonate: 600-690 yuan/ton ; Huadong solid sulfonate: 640–750 yuan per ton; liquid sulfonate: 600–660 yuan per ton ; South China Guosulfon 620 – 800 yuan/ton ; Southwest solid sulfonate costs 670–700 yuan per ton, while Northwest solid sulfonate costs 600–880 yuan per ton. In terms of ports: at the beginning of the month, the price of granular sulfur at the Yangtze River ports in the main production areas was 745 yuan per ton; by the end of the month, this price dropped to 660 yuan per ton, a decrease of 85 yuan or 11.4%. In the Qingdao port area, the price of lump and powder sulfur from Japan and South Korea fell from 715 yuan to 650 yuan. The average price of domestically produced sulfur across the country dropped from 718 yuan to 662 yuan. It is evident that the overall domestic sulfur market is experiencing a decline, with a fairly pessimistic atmosphere in the market. Analysis of the sulfur market outlook: In the international sulfur market, prices are expected to decline steadily in the third quarter. Contract prices for producers in the Middle East are likely to fall below $80 per ton. Additionally, China’s sulfur imports remained high in July, meaning that the supply-demand imbalance will not ease, and the fundamental conditions for sulfur will remain weak. As a result, prices are likely to continue to drop slightly.
