I remember it was something related to the motor; I don’t know anything else about it
Function of the exciter: 1) Adjust the excitation current accordingly to changes in the generator load, in order to maintain the terminal voltage at a specified value; 2) Control the distribution of reactive power among generators operating in parallel ; 3) Improve the static stability of parallel operation of generators ; 4) Improve the transient stability of generator parallel operation ; 5) When a fault occurs inside the generator, demagnetization is carried out to reduce the extent of the damage caused by the fault ; 6) Impose maximum and minimum excitation limits on the generator according to operational requirements. Working principle of the exciter The exciter is a DC generator that is usually mounted on the same axis as the generator. As the rotor shaft rotates, it drives the exciter to rotate as well, and the DC excitation current required to generate a magnetic field in the generator is supplied by the exciter. The alternating current generated inside the exciter is converted into direct current by a rectifier at its end, and this direct current is sent to the rotor of the generator through brushes and slip rings in order to create a direct current magnetic field. As the rotor rotates, the magnetic field lines move relative to the stator coils, and the movement of these magnetic field lines across the stator coils induces a voltage in them.
