Dear colleagues, due to an installation error, the wire mesh demister at the top of one of the desulfurization towers was not installed. The tower has been put into trial operation and no problems have arisen so far. If we stop operations to install it now, it will incur significant additional costs. I would like to ask everyone: what impact will the absence of this wire mesh demister have on the normal operation of the tower?
If it is operated within the design load range, the impact will not be significant. However, when designing the upper limit of the operating load range, or even when operating beyond it, there will definitely be effects: liquid will be carried out, and normal operation may not be possible.

This is done to reduce the amount of liquid in the gas exiting the top of the tower. This is especially true for those with a liquid separation tank at the gas outlet at the top of the tower.
There will be a section of packing or trays at the top of the tower for mist removal; unless the gas flow rate is very high, this usually poses no problem.
I work in the chemical industry, dealing with mist eliminators. I remind your company that since there’s no problem for now, it’s best to shut down the operation as soon as possible. When something happens, it’s not just a small amount of money anymore
With a liquid separation tank, it’s not a big problem.
