Please discuss this: when conducting weld evaluation for Q345R, impact tests are performed at 0 degrees, while GB150 specifies -20 degrees as the applicable temperature. So, if the product is to be used at -15 degrees, is it necessary to conduct impact tests at -15 degrees as well?
Personally, I think a 0°C impact test should be conducted
Check the thickness and refer to Table 4 in GB150.2; however, since it is at -15°C, an impact test at -15°C can be carried out.
For thicknesses below 20, it seems that a 0°C impact rating can be achieved as low as -20℃
Then why is 18mm Q345R material used for our liquid ammonia tanks, with a design temperature of -10 degrees? The design institute requires us to conduct impact tests at -10 degrees My own understanding is that after applying a 0-degree impact, it can be used at -20 degrees.
Table 4 of 150 specifies that for Q345R material, with a thickness in the range of 6–20 mm, impact testing is conducted at 0 degrees, and the lower operating temperature limit is -20 degrees. If the operating temperature is -15 degrees, an impact at 0 degrees is sufficient. The original poster did not specify the thickness range of the panels. As for the situation mentioned on the 6th floor, for an 18mm liquid ammonia tank, an impact at 0 degrees is sufficient. It’s the requirements from the design institute, you know.
