May I ask which expert knows what the definitions of amorphous sulfur and polymeric sulfur are respectively? Is sulfur amorphous sulfur? Is it polymeric sulfur? Sulfur structures should be divided into S2, S4, S6, and S8. Is the sulfur we use in pure S8 structure? Are there any other structures? If so, what is the proportion? How can we prove or detect whether the sulfur we use has an S8 structure or another structure? Thank you
Insoluble Sulfur, scientifically known as the homopolymer of sulfur or polymeric sulfur, abbreviated as IS, has an atomic weight of 32.07. It appears as a non-toxic, flammable yellow powder; it represents a highly polymerized form of ordinary sulfur and is an isotopic variant as well as a polymer-modified version. It is insoluble in carbon disulfide and rubber. Insoluble sulfur is an important vulcanization crosslinking agent for rubber, with a relative molecular weight of 30,000–40,000, and it comes in two types: oil-filled and oil-free. Ordinary sulfur is a yellow solid at room temperature, and it has two allotropes. Below 95.5℃ it is the stable orthorhombic sulfur (Sα), with a melting point of 112.8℃ ; Above 95.5°C, it is the stable monoclinic sulfur (Sβ), with a melting point of 114.5°C. Both forms of sulfur are composed of S8 rings, but their lattice arrangements differ. Ordinary sulfur is insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents such as carbon disulfide and tetrachloroethylene.
