Abstract: Is it really true, as some argue, that August is cursed with production safety accidents? In fact, this is not the case; the “August curse” is an idealistic view that should be firmly criticized. From a Marxist materialist perspective, the high likelihood of serious production safety accidents in August can be explained by certain underlying factors. Whether it was the liquid ammonia leak incident in Shanghai, the dust explosion incident in Kunshan, the extremely serious fire and explosion accident at the hazardous materials warehouse of Ruihai Company in Tianjin Port, or the pipe rupture accident at the Dangyang Power Plant in Hubei. Without exception, all of these major production safety accidents occurred in August; for this reason, many people believe that there is a \"August curse\" affecting work related to safety production. Looking at the regions where major production safety accidents of a serious nature occurred in August, provinces and cities such as Shanghai, Jiangsu, Tianjin, and Hubei have been the sites of several such accidents over the past few years in August. These incidents are scattered across different locations, and most of these areas are economically developed. Additionally, the industries involved in these accidents include liquid ammonia refrigeration, dust explosion prevention, hazardous chemicals, and electricity generation – all sectors prone to severe accidents. Is it really true, as some people claim, that August is cursed with production safety accidents? In fact, this \"August curse\" is an idealistic notion that should be firmly criticized. Firstly, August is the height of summer, and due to factors such as high temperatures and heavy rainfall, the hot and humid working conditions can easily lead to physical and mental exhaustion among workers, prompting unsafe behaviors and increasing the risk of production safety accidents. Secondly, summer is the peak season for production and operations, with an increase in orders and heavy production tasks. Many companies rush to meet deadlines and carry out construction work in a hasty manner, resulting in lax safety management practices. Thirdly, with the increased use of electrical appliances, equipment operates beyond its capacity, and many devices continue to function despite being faulty, thereby increasing the risk of accidents. The combined effect of these factors **increases** the likelihood of safety accidents occurring in August. The author believes that to break the \"August curse,\" it is essential to thoroughly understand the patterns and characteristics of seasonal safety production, and to respect these objective laws. By adapting measures to the timing, local conditions, and specific circumstances of each enterprise, safety production strategies that take into account seasonal factors, industry specifics, and regional realities can be developed. Efforts should be focused on strengthening accident prevention through decisive and sustained action. First, it is necessary to thoroughly understand the characteristics of summer work safety. It is necessary to strengthen communication and coordination with departments such as the meteorological service, accurately understand the climate characteristics of summer, assess the safety production situation during that period, and take targeted measures to ensure effective action. Second, summer work safety must be organized in accordance with laws and regulations. Production must be organized in strict accordance with the laws and regulations regarding safe production during the hot summer months; work should not be carried out recklessly, there should be no pursuit of speed at all costs, and equipment must not be used for operation while it is faulty, so as to ensure that production takes place under conditions that guarantee safety. Third, it is necessary to strengthen the identification and rectification of potential safety hazards. Enterprises should be urged to step up efforts in identifying and addressing potential accident hazards; those that can be rectified promptly should do so without delay, while those that cannot be fixed in time and pose a high risk should cease operations and evacuate personnel – it is unacceptable to turn a blind eye to such hazards. Fourth, it is necessary to step up inspections and supervision of work safety. It is necessary to strengthen safety production inspections and supervision in key industries such as metallurgy, hazardous chemicals, shipbuilding, refrigeration, and firefighting, make every effort to eliminate potential accident hazards, and reduce the risk of production safety accidents. Fifth, efforts must be made to carry out publicity and education on work safety. It is necessary to make full use of publicity media such as new media and self-media to intensify efforts in promoting safe production, strengthen safety education within enterprises, and continuously improve the level of enterprise safety management as well as workers’ awareness of safe production. Recently, the Office of the State Council Safety Committee issued the \"Guidelines for Addressing the Root Causes and Controlling Severe Accidents.\" Based on top-level planning, these guidelines provide a comprehensive roadmap for preventing severe industrial safety accidents, and they also serve as a call to action for all regions and departments to take steps to prevent such accidents. It is hoped that all regions and departments will resolutely adhere to the goals, approaches, and requirements set out in the \"Guidelines for Addressing the Root Causes and Controlling Severe Accidents,\" focus on taking control of severe production safety incidents, and continuously strengthen preventive measures. It is believed that breaking the \"August curse\" and achieving a fundamental improvement in the overall national safety situation are within reach and certainly achievable.
