Dear colleagues, during the operation of the methanol-water separation tower (one in service and one as backup), a thinning of the tower wall thickness has been observed, particularly in the area of the tower near the gas outlet pipeline of the reboiler in this tower. What is the cause of this phenomenon? How to avoid it?
Analyze water quality! It may be acidic; it is recommended to replace the stainless steel pipe or add alkali
The design calls for the addition of alkali; if no alkali is added, steam must be introduced directly to increase the flow rate of hot water exiting the tower. But corrosion has already occurred; as you can see, only local reinforcement is needed.
Without alkaline solution, the tower is made of composite stainless steel
