Regarding the selection of mechanical seals

Hai Youhao: One of our company’s 3000L enamel-lined reaction vessels has been modified to operate under negative pressure in accordance with the process requirements (it originally operated under positive pressure). The operating pressure is 1 KPa. The original seal was a 212-95 type single-face mechanical seal; is it feasible to continue using this original seal, or what type of seal should be chosen if not? For the operating condition you specified of 1000 Pa, a single-face mechanical seal will also work, but its service life is not very good. It is recommended to modify 221 double-end face mechanical seals

It is recommended that you use a radial double-end face mechanical seal such as 221, which can withstand highly corrosive media.
Adjust the gap on a single end face; achieve a high vacuum with no pressure
If high vacuum levels are required, considering not using a mechanical seal might be an option; it would be better to use magnetic drive for stirring. No leaks and stable!
It is recommended to use an axial double-end face mechanical seal; a 221-type radial double-end face seal is also an option, but it requires high installation precision and demands a high level of skill from the maintenance personnel at your company. For axial double-end face seals, you can choose type 205 or type 206; since both are of the modular type, they are easy to install. All you need to do is ensure that the connection dimensions of the 221 seal you are currently using match those of the new seal you intend to purchase. Pay attention to the installation height.
