This break point indicates the transition from an aqueous environment to an organic environment; the entrainer usually remains in the column up to this break point. For control purposes, this break point is somewhat similar to the break point in cases of sharp splits. The main difference is that in sharp splits there is one inflection point in the upper section and another in the lower section, whereas in azeotropic distillation only one inflection point may exist. Azeotropic distillation turning point (breakpoint). In azeotropic distillation, a relatively sharp temperature inflection point often appears. This breakpoint indicates the transition from an aqueous environment to an organic environment. The continuous depth of the entrainer in the tower is the same as the depth at the breakpoint. From a control perspective, this breakpoint is somewhat similar to the breakpoint of sharp cracks. The main difference is that there is a bending point at both the top and bottom of the sharp crack, whereas in azeotropic distillation there is only one bending point. A break point is a turning point, somewhat similar to an inflection point in a mathematical curve. A sharp split refers to a relatively narrow crack.
