There is a slight knocking sound at the crosshead window of the reciprocating compressor; it has a regular frequency and sounds somewhat like fingers tapping on a wall. The sound can be heard more clearly on the side close to the crankcase. Could someone with experience help analyze what might be causing this sound? Is it necessary to shut down the machine for inspection as well?
What is the fixed frequency? Is it the same as the compression frequency? Is the crosshead clearance too large, or is the lock nut loose? In more detail
It’s different from the compressor frequency; I’m not quite sure either. I can’t determine exactly where the noise is coming from – it appears sometimes but not always. Additionally, the foot bolts seem a bit loose; I’m not sure if that’s the direct cause
Stop the machine immediately for inspection! It’s possible that the piston back cap is loose; the connection between the piston rod and the crosshead also needs to be checked.
Try to figure out the source of the sound as much as possible. What is the frequency like? Is there any pattern? Judging solely from the sound coming from this location, the area is too large; it’s possible that disassembly and inspection are necessary.
In the face of abnormal situations, if the fault can be accurately identified, preventive measures can be taken; for those cases where the fault cannot be determined with certainty, it is best to shut down the system immediately, rather than acting carelessly and ending up regretting it later

I opened it up today and found that two of the connection bolts between the cylinders were loose; they have been tightened now. I’m not sure if this is the cause; I’ll check again once it’s in use

Personal recommendation for a parking inspection: 1. Check whether the crosshead connection is loose; 2. Check whether the gap between the crosshead slider and the slideway is too large (for signs of wear) ; 3. Check whether the clearance of the bearing bush at the crosshead pin is too large ; 4. Are there any assembly errors in the crosshead assembly (as a whole), or any loosening that occurs during operation?
