On the selection of process parameters for welding processes

I don’t have a background as a welder, so I’m not very familiar with the selection of welding parameters. For example, when working with 10mm thick carbon steel, I’m not sure how many layers should be welded using automatic or manual welding methods, nor what diameter of electrodes or wires to use. How thick can a normal 3.2/4.0 electrode weld? Are there any books that can help one learn *these things systematically?

Do you mean by experience? Are there any books that contain theoretical knowledge on this topic?
The process parameters in the book are mostly unreliable. . . Experience is also needed. . and experiment
There are some books on practical welding techniques, but practice is still necessary; things vary depending on the situation. It is also closely related to the actual conditions on site, such as the size of the groove.
