We designed 6 dip pipes for PX unloading, but the owner felt they took up too much space and were too far away from the tank area; they thought that using unloading hoses would save space and allow them to be placed closer to the tanks. However, I believe that whether dip pipes or hoses are used, the space required and the distance from the storage tanks remain the same, though I can’t come up with any arguments to counter this, as I have only experience with dip pipe unloading.

Hoses are generally considered a temporary solution; they are relatively simple in design and usually lack exhaust treatment and drainage mechanisms. Moreover, PX is somewhat toxic; if it needs to be used for a long time, hoses clearly do not meet the requirements. As for spacing requirements, there are no mandatory requirements for temporary hoses, but clear requirements apply to flexibles.
Is a flexible hose needed just for unloading?
It’s not a temporary unloading hose; it’s regular hose unloading. I think the safety distance should be equivalent to that of the flexible hose; both are related to the unloading port
