Both reciprocating pumps and vortex pumps are mainly used in applications requiring low flow rates and high head pressures. Are there any differences in the applications of these two pumps?

To sum up, the main differences are as follows: 1. For fluids with higher viscosity, reciprocating pumps are more suitable, while vortex pumps are not appropriate. 2. Vortex pumps generally have a high NPSHr value. 3. The flow rate of a vortex pump is delivered stably, while the flow rate from a reciprocating pump has pulses; therefore, the stability of a reciprocating pump is not as good as that of a vortex pump. Buffer tanks can be installed in front of and behind the reciprocating pump as needed. 4. In terms of operation and maintenance, vortex pumps are superior to reciprocating pumps. 5. Vortex pumps are not suitable for use with particles. 6. Reciprocating pumps require an outlet safety valve to be installed, whereas vortex pumps do not.
