The nitrogen gas obtained through methanol washing is produced by regenerating molecular sieve using liquid nitrogen. Now, there are problems with the molecular sieve treated with liquid nitrogen; it produces a large amount of powder, which causes the filters in the pump below the stripping tower to clog frequently. Even after removing those filters, the subsequent filters get clogged again. What should be done? The CO2 level at the top of the absorption tower is too high – could this be related to the presence of molecular sieve powder in the methanol? Some information I found also states that an excessive amount of suspended matter in methanol can affect its absorption efficiency
One factor that affects the efficiency of methanol absorption is a dirty methanol solution. It is recommended to replace the nitrogen source for air lifting, or to inspect and replace the molecular sieve.
I took out the molecular sieve to do some screening and added a few more barrels of material; things improved a bit, but the problem still persists
If the methanol is contaminated, it affects the efficiency of CO2 removal. It is recommended to install a gas filter before the nitrogen produced by the molecular sieve enters the low-temperature methanol washing unit, in order to ensure the purity of the gas
It’s really tricky; adding a few barrels of molecular sieve is an overly crude approach. Once the molecular sieve is damaged, it must be replaced entirely, one column at a time; one tank can be replaced in a single day. The liquid nitrogen manufacturer should have a plan in place, and safety must be taken into consideration.
Can molecular sieves be replaced online? This can be achieved by reducing the load and extending the absorption time. To determine the cause of the pulverization of molecular sieves, it is necessary to handle them properly; dealing with low-methane dust is even more complicated
It could be considered to discontinue the use of regenerated nitrogen and replace the molecular sieve completely; the entire system is severely contaminated by the molecular sieve
