Dear colleagues from Sichuan, let’s discuss this: after the power is lost in Asahi Kasei’s zero-gap cells, saltwater and alkali cannot circulate; instead, high-purity water must be used for high-flow circulation for 50 minutes. Once power is restored, should the liquid drainage and cell cleaning procedure be carried out, or should the high-purity water in the cells be completely drained before alkali and saltwater are added to get the system running again?
Both saline and alkali solutions have sump tanks – then why is pure water used as a substitute? I’m afraid that won’t work. Is the topic imagined by the poster?
After a power loss, all pumps cannot be started; saline and alkali cannot be delivered to the high-level tanks, and the supply from these tanks is limited in duration.

Important pumps should be equipped with an emergency power source, such as a diesel generator. Not circulating can cause significant damage to the electrolytic cell; using pure water may cause the cell temperature to drop too quickly.
Yeah, high-volume pure water causes the electrolytic cell to cool down rapidly, which isn’t good for the membrane – could it cause the membrane to shrink?
There’s nothing that can be done about it either; the temperature difference in the current rise of the battery cells is also significant.
We have also done what the poster described here; it was due to a power loss in the anode and cathode pumps. In such situations, we opted to use pure water supplied to the anode for replacement. If there is no emergency power supply, it is better to have pure water circulation rather than none at all, as without circulation the coating deteriorates severely.

There’s a power outage; if there’s an emergency power supply, start the pump immediately. If not, seal the tank. Won’t using pure water instead of saltwater cause the membrane to bubble and delaminate?
