Dear everyone, for a foreign project currently under development, there is a test separator with a relatively high design pressure of 345 bar and an ID of 1200 mm. The manufacturer is required to use forgings for its construction, with an alloy 625 lining. However, the client intends to opt for cladding made of 625 instead of using a composite lining. I would like to ask the experts: is it possible to use a composite lining on forgings rather than relying on cladding? Personally, I think using cladding will increase both costs and construction time! ! ! !
It should be possible; using a structure made of explosive composite plates. I haven’t used 625 material before, but I have used composite plates made of 20 alloy and carbon steel. You can ask Shen Song.
It’s relatively easy to perform surfacing on forgings, right?
Cladding of forgings is more appropriate. The pressure you are facing is high, the inner diameter is small, and an inner lining might work, but it is essential to ensure that it can handle the required pressure and temperature. The thickness of the inner lining in millimeters, as well as its structure, all need to be carefully designed and considered.
The bonding strength of the lining is approximately 1 Mpa, which does not meet the requirement of the design pressure of 345 bar = 34.5 Mpa. We can perform surfacing of forged pipes with 625 material using the GTAW hot wire process; the bond strength achieved is greater than 400 Mpa. Wang: 18638730687
If the temperature is not high, lining plates can be considered. It facilitates construction and reduces costs.

Based on factors such as the working medium, it can be discussed that, while ensuring performance, linings should be selected selectively, with surfacing structures being the next choice.
