Let’s discuss: Was the HAZOP analysis for the installations in your company carried out internally or by a third party? Should it be done by oneself or by a third party?
If a third party does it well, doing it oneself is just a formality
It doesn’t matter which party does it; what’s important is to be serious and responsible, and to have a thorough understanding of the manufacturing process. We have always done it ourselves, and we also need to do it regularly, recording any problems that arise during production as well as whatever has happened. In this way, things can be improved over time.
Is a third party better, as one can get more suggestions?
What I do mainly involves a lot of brainstorming across various fields; it’s better to work with professional organizations
It’s better to do it by oneself; it mainly helps in developing the ability to identify problems. After the work is done professionally, almost no one looks at it, and it still costs a lot of money
When working on it oneself, it’s not possible to remain objective; once a problem is identified, the leader can simply order it to be fixed； When it is done by professional agencies, it is not easy for leaders to conceal safety hazards.
We did it ourselves; indeed, there is the situation where problems can be fixed immediately once the supervisor gives an order. But by doing it ourselves, we gain a better understanding of the manufacturing process, and it also helps develop everyone’s ability to identify problems. It’s actually quite good – we’ve learned a lot.
