At least I don’t have any regrets. 1. Gratitude. I was admitted to university by reaching the cutoff score that ranked me last in the province (along with others who shared that rank). With the meager money I managed to save for the first semester, I stood alone for 16 hours before finally reaching the university in my province. There’s no sense of upheaval; it’s just as if one is studying *knowledge* in a different place. 2. Friends. I met a friend on the train who has been my close buddy for four years; he has enriched my extracurricular life. As he enrolled in an off-campus photography school and obtained his diploma. As photographers traveled everywhere, taking thousands of photos, all of which needed to be developed; digital photography had not yet become widespread at that time (in 2002). 3. Academics. Skip one class (except for elective courses). Failed one course (1 course); it was a required course. It was the SARS year, so it wasn’t included in the grades. So there’s no need to rebuild it. Received a scholarship, once a year. Won it four times. I passed Level 4 on the first try; the first place getter scored over 80 points, and the second place getter scored 60 points – that was me, haha. I took the CET-6 exam three times, scoring around 55 points each time. Hehe, it seems I’m not destined to pass this exam. I helped a classmate answer the question; I forgot how many times they had to stand up. In any case, the teacher said that this student shouldn’t stand up anymore, as they have too many aliases. Haha. After passing the postgraduate entrance exam, it’s purely for fun. Go to bed when it’s time to sleep, and go play games when it’s time to do that. So taking the postgraduate entrance exam is just a formality for me; I no longer have the courage to continue my studies. The tuition for four years – the first two years were covered by loans, while the last two years were paid for through part-time work and money borrowed from classmates. I no longer have the courage to study. 4. Extracurricular life. I was class president for three years, served as a student council member, secured sponsorships, and organized events. Organized spring and autumn outings. I’ve been to group dinners. Played in the school team league (football) as a substitute (haha), and also played in the basketball student union league. I’ve been in internet cafes all night before; these days I just climb onto the table to sleep. Fought against the CS team in a group match. But I don’t get immersed in it again. I have participated in club activities related to photography, but I’ve never paid any membership fees; haha, that’s because the president of the photography club is my good friend whom I met on the train. I was involved in a housing program for students to get to know each other; in reality, it was my classmates who used my name to participate in those activities. Calling my name, they go wild. Ugh, it was such a sad situation – I heard a girl calling my name downstairs, and then my classmates rushed over right away. That way, my name and my roommate’s name were used by them for a whole year. Haha 5. Love. I started dating in my junior year; it wasn’t anything dramatic. We would just go to class together, take walks in the park, go to the supermarket to buy fast food and eat it in the park. After eating, go sightseeing. Someone is doing the laundry. Those days were quite nice. They got married after graduation, and everything went as expected. My wife has been with me like this for over a decade now. 6. I have given tutoring lessons and taken on private work. I worked as a teacher at a training institution, where two children really liked me; their parents bought them all their winter clothes, including down jackets. I also worked as a tutor for a child from the air force; I provided food and accommodation, and my fee was 3,000 per month. The parents kept asking me to stay, and they even called to inquire, but I gave up on it decisively because of a romantic relationship. By choosing love, money will follow. Maybe I could actually get into graduate school then. Haha. I delivered goods to supermarkets; I didn’t go home during the New Year’s holiday. I worked as a temporary worker for a month and earned 800 dollars, which is quite a lot. I worked as a promoter for Haier. I gave consolation performances in the countryside. Provided bid support for an audio equipment company. 7. Have written two graduation theses. One portion for my wife, one for me; my wife’s portion even earned her an excellent graduation thesis. 8. I had family matters to attend to, so I wasn’t able to go to the graduation ceremony; my wife helped take care of everything related to graduating. The two blood donors are gone, and all the professional books are gone. Left behind only my love letters from four years with other girls: L. All the days that followed also vanished completely. I feel that my four years of youth were very fulfilling. Everything that's needed is available. The entire experience. Haha. There are no regrets in youth.
