It deals with the selection of valves such as globe valves, ball valves, and butterfly valves for stainless steel pipes operating under a pressure of PN16 and at temperatures ranging from 250 to 300 degrees. After checking the valve manuals 16P and 16R, it was found that the operating temperature limit for both soft-sealed and hard-sealed valves is below 200 degrees, so neither type is suitable. 16I is a chromium-molybdenum steel; its operating temperature can meet the requirements, but is it suitable for use in stainless steel pipes? Are there any other types of valves you would recommend?
Our company’s grade table specifies 347H for the sealing surfaces, while the material used for pipes of that grade is 304H
If it is not clear what type of medium is involved and the pipes are made of stainless steel, it is best to use stainless steel valves as well; austenitic stainless steel will suffice
For stainless steel pipes with temperatures ranging from 250 to 300 degrees, when selecting valves such as globe valves, ball valves, and butterfly valves, I checked the valve manuals 16P and 16R. The operating temperature limit for both soft-sealed and hard-sealed valves is below 200 degrees, so they are not suitable in this case. Stainless steel valves with hard seals can withstand temperatures up to around 300 degrees; only those designed to handle temperatures above 500 degrees require special treatment of the stainless steel material. The mention of below 300 degrees here is not appropriate; it’s a matter of the material chosen for the sealing surface. The material of the valve body can withstand temperatures of 300 degrees, while for the sealing surface, metal hard-sealing structures can be used in globe valves, butterfly valves, and ball valves.
250-300°C is not considered a high temperature, but soft seals are definitely not suitable; a stainless steel hard seal will work fine.
Hard-sealed ball valves work fine; they can handle temperatures up to 600 degrees
In situations like this, a stainless steel hard seal is generally sufficient

The operating temperature for ordinary globe valves is generally around 400 degrees
