According to 7.5.2 of HG/T20510-2014, when galvanized steel pipes are used in the gas supply system, it is advisable to use galvanized threaded connection fittings; welding connections should not be used. Could the experts please explain why \"welded joints should not be used\"? ? ? Thank you all!
We basically use stainless steel for our gas supply pipes; there isn’t much extra cost for smaller diameters. In my understanding, does it mean that galvanized steel pipes are more prone to rusting, and that threaded connections are easier to replace? Furthermore, the SH standard does not specify the connection method.

It can’t be welded because of the galvanizing.
When galvanized pipes are connected by welding, there are two problems: 1. The galvanizing layer at the weld site is damaged, making the pipe prone to corrosion; water in compressed air can cause rust to form on the pipe walls. 2. Due to the presence of the galvanizing layer, sand holes tend to appear during welding.
The welds cannot be internally coated for corrosion protection, and there is slag, which is detrimental to gas-using equipment.
