Thanks to her rarely seen tall and sturdy build among women, Hu Anyun, the safety officer at Guangzhou Petrochemical’s polyethylene plant, is easily recognizable at a glance. A decisive and tough individual, an energetic and strong-willed woman, a loyal and compassionate person like Sister Hu… Although no single label can capture the entirety of Hu Anyun’s personality, each of these traits makes one want to get to know this genuine and heartfelt safety officer better. In the eyes of the construction workers, Huanyun was a \"fierce\" woman. At the site of the equipment overhaul, seeing Juan Yun approaching from afar, the young worker from the construction team who was carrying out welding work lowered his head out of guilt, but unfortunately, he still couldn’t avoid Juan Yun’s routine inspection. On November 28, 2015, the four-yearly major maintenance of the polyethylene plant officially began. Despite having undergone many such repairs in the past, Huanyun treated it as if it were the first time. She set up camp at the construction site and paid close attention to every aspect of the work, paying no attention to any detail – from the pre-construction briefings, hazard communications, and board management, to on-site supervision and the actual construction activities. If anyone tries to cut corners, they will be severely reprimanded by her, and may even be directly \"asked to leave\" the facility. She will ignore all personal ties when it comes to safety, but when the construction company faces difficulties, she goes out of her way to help solve them. During the major repair work, to ensure that the workers could start working at 8 a.m. every day, she arrived at her post one hour earlier to issue the work orders needed for that day in a timely manner ； To meet the contractor’s requirements for specialized safety training prior to major repairs and to enable the construction workers to start working on site promptly, she used her evening time to conduct specialized safety training for them.
On January 14, 2016, the polyethylene plant was successfully started up for the first time after completing 395 major maintenance and renovation projects, with no accidents occurring during the maintenance period. During the 41-day maintenance period, Hu Juanyun issued 155 work orders and 29 permits for working in confined spaces; he corrected 113 violations of safety rules, and worked an additional 21.5 days in total. The major overhaul of the unit resulted in zero accidents and a successful first start-up. “Only with solid technical skills can one have confidence in one’s work. ”Juan Yun is good at continuously improving his professional knowledge in safety at work. Her 20 years of experience in front-line safety management have made her an expert in this field; she has been involved in the development of various safety regulations within the operations department. In October 2013, as both a coach and a team member, she led young employees from Guangzhou Petrochemical to compete in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Safety Knowledge Competition, where they won third place.
On June 15, 2014, after repairs were carried out following a power fluctuation, the reactor in the polyethylene plant suddenly experienced runaway polymerization during normal production. The treatment of polymerization explosions is a difficult and time-consuming process, but if the treatment takes too long, the upstream ethylene plants will be forced to reduce their output or even shut down. There was a fierce debate regarding whether to start construction in the reactor right away. “Safety cannot rely solely on experience, nor can it be taken for granted; one must not proceed until the risks have been completely eliminated! ”Juan Yun stuck to his own opinion. “You’re just a bill issuer! ”Amidst the fierce argument, a remark made by a construction worker in a hurry to get the work done caused Juan Yun’s feelings of grievance and injustice to turn into tears that streamed down her face. In the end, faced with Juan Yunxiang’s thorough data analysis, the management accepted her suggestions and decided to \"not enter the reactor immediately and to develop a new maintenance plan.\" Hard work always pays off; the polyethylene plant where Juan Yun works has repeatedly set records for long-term safe operation. In 2015, this device set a record for the longest operating period, lasting 522 days. This record ranks among the top for similar installations within the group company. Huan Yun has also been awarded various honors, including Advanced Worker in Safety Production at Sinopec, Outstanding Female Worker at Guangzhou Petrochemical, Excellent Safety Officer at Guangzhou Petrochemical, and Model Worker at Guangzhou Petrochemical.
