1. Let’s discuss what the effects would be if a motor-driven fan in a circulating cooling tower were replaced with a turbine
I’m also collecting information on this topic; I’m not sure what the actual results are
This post was last edited by tony1 on 2015-7-14 at 12:42. Currently, we have turbines used in 2 circulating water stations, and the problem is that during the hot summer months, the temperature of the circulating water doesn’t drop. There’s no other choice but to run it with an additional pump.
Replace the fan with a turbine: check if there is any remaining energy in the circulating water. If there is a large surplus, considering turbine cooling is possible
Turbines work fine; in our organization, 6 out of 8 turbines were modified and they can still be used. It’s just necessary to adjust the rotation speed of the turbines properly
Turbines are actually feasible; we specialize in manufacturing turbines
We have made changes here; it does save electricity, but not all aspects are displayed yet, and it cannot handle the system load. It is recommended to carry out partial modifications by using fans and turbines in combination
The energy-saving benefits achieved through the modification of turbines are not as great as those obtained by directly modifying water pumps, by replacing them with smaller pumps or by cutting the impeller. It is understood that most turbine manufacturers overstate the energy-saving effects of such modifications. It is recommended to conduct a thorough analysis of the system’s surplus capacity. As far as I know, there is no renovation that is perfectly perfect at the moment; it’s very difficult to restore things after a failed renovation. Companies such as Nanjing Xingfei, Hehai Jiayu, Anhui Lingdian, and Anhui Zhicheng are currently producing water turbines for cooling towers.
It’s fine to win an energy-saving award, but the performance isn’t very good.
If the system has some spare capacity, it can be modified; for safety reasons, partial modifications can be made, and they will definitely yield results
Depending on your company’s requirements regarding the circulating water temperature, it can be adjusted if the requirements are not high. Also, after the modification the current of the circulation pump increases; if the circulation volume is low, there is basically no electricity savings after the modification
